Redfin Fishing Gear
With powerful tails and striking red fins (hence the name), redfin perch are a species that offers something different to your usual struggles against larger fish. Hook yourself on a redfin with our hand-picked range of Rapala and Jackall lures along with Daiwa and Shimano reels and more.
Declared a noxious species, redfin’s post a threat to native fish and natural environments. Check with your local fisheries department for the laws on catch and release of redfin.
Where to find redfin perch?
Although you can find redfin among a large variety of habitats, they still prefer still or slow-flowing waters. This makes dams and lakes ideal for redfin fishing along with any slow streams or rivers. They tend to swim among vegetation and rocks or anywhere that they can find good shelter.
What lures to use for redfin?
Lure fishing is a very effective tactic for redfin. Soft plastic lures that imitate or resemble small fish are recommended. The best soft plastics are grub style lures and swim baits between 2-2.5 inches. Spinners and hard body lures have also shown to be effective.
What is the best bait to catch redfin perch?
Fresh worms and freshwater yabbies are ideal targets for redfin. Rig up with a baitholder or worm hook size 4-1/0, 4-10lb mono or braided line and a fluorocarbon or mono leader line between 6-10lbs.
