Marlin Fishing Gear
When you’re out trolling for Marlin, it’s important to be equipped with the right fishing gear. BCF’s marlin fishing range features a range of lures, both colourful and natural coloured that’ll be perfect for a spread. Shop our range of NOMAD, Halco and Classic Bluewater lures as well as Daiwa and Shimano reels.
Where can I catch a Marlin in Australia?
A highly migratory pelagic species, Marlin can be found almost 300m deep in tropical to temperate waters of both the Pacific and Indian Oceans. A mostly solitary fish until spawning season, Marlin can be caught hunting their prey (sardines, pilchards, squid and small tunas) in surface waters along the east and west coast of Australia.
How to run a marlin spread and troll with skirted lures?
With a spread set up, you'll want the two loudest, noisiest, biggest and brightest (or darkest depending on how you like to run your colours) closest to the boat, about 10m back is ideal. This gives the fish something to hit and aim for amongst all the commotion of the outboard. On the outside rods about 40m back, start running your smaller, more natural colour lures. Fly fish imitation and baitfish profiles are recommended.
