Nets and Traps
Why do I need a bait net/trap?
Using nets and traps to catch crabs and collect bait can be a fun and cost-effective activity, great for the whole family, including the littlies. They come in a variety of shapes and designs, perfect for catching live bait such as mullet, herring and prawns. Live baits can be used to great effect on most predatory saltwater and freshwater fish species.
Does BCF sell crab pots?
Many fisho’s and boaties alike enjoy the pastime of setting a few crab pots in our local rivers and estuaries, in the hope of catching a mud crab or sand crab. The beautiful white meat is very tasty and well worth the effort. BCF has an extensive range of crab pots to suit any budget, with popular brands including Surecatch, Wilson and Rogue. The rogue crabbing float and accessory kit has all the requirements you need for setting 4 pots, with polystyrene floats, bait clips, ID tags, zip ties, ropes and marker pen. You are allowed 4 crab pots per person per boat.
What is the best bait to use?
Baits come in many different forms and vary depending on your target species. When setting crab pots, mixing it up with fish frames, chicken carcasses and meaty food scraps will work best, while shrimp traps will be most effective with either tuna oil and barley mixes, dried cat food and even rockmelon.
