What does water rating mean with rain jackets and rain coats?
It's always important to consider what type of rain you intend to weather with your rain coat or jacket before you buy. For a light shower, a 0-5,000 mm rating will provide adequate protection from the drizzle and keep you dry. When considering more consistent and heavier rain, you’d be looking at a 6,000 – 10,000 mm rating and then considering a full downpoor you should look at something like a 11,000-15000 mm water rating.
