When selecting battery to suit your boat or vessel it is important to first ask yourself, “what am I using it for?” Do you need a dual purpose battery to both start your boat and run accessories, or are you soley using it to power accessories? Dual Purpose Marine Batteries: Dual Purpose Batteries are responsible for starting your boat and running all your accessories including: fish finders, signal lights and everything else electrical. That’s why it is crucial to have one that is rated for your vessel. You will need one with a high enough cold cranking amps(CCA) and Deep cycle cranking capacity(AH) to start your boat and keep all your electric accessories running.

Deep Cycle Batteries: Deep cycle batteries have no cranking functions but provide a steady output to power all your accessories. These batteries can be depleted to 20% capacity regularly without damaging the integrity or functionality of the battery. These batteries are common in bigger boats and house boats where the Starting or Dual Purpose battery doesn’t have the capacity to maintain all your accessories.
