LURES / TROLLING
Use 30-50lb leader and wire if you have to. Troll large 110mm-190mm hard bodied lures. When trolling lures, have a wide spread of different colours to suit the conditions.
EXPERT TIP
Try running lures at their maximum speed while trolling to trigger an aggressive reaction bite. Don’t want to troll? Mackerel love casted/retrieved poppers and stickbaits in the 140mm-220mm range.
BAIT FOR MACKEREL
Use a pilchard on a Set of 3 ganged hooks, 30-50lb leader and wire if you have to. Use a rolling swivel and a light sinker, enough to slowly float down the burley trail.
Slimy Mackerel, Garfish and live bait are also great baits. Try to avoid using wire as this can scare the fish. Only use wire if you are continuously getting bitten off.
