Don't worry, the BCFing experts have the answers for you, it's all in our ultimate fishing checklist! The perfect way for those new to the hobby to wet their feet. From rods and reels to lines and lures – We cover it all in this cracker!
Fishing Rod
This is a pretty important piece of the fishing puzzle, and one you won't get too far without! For the uninitiated or anyone new to the hobby we would recommend starting off with a spinning rod, something in the 2-4kg or 3-6kg range and 6-7 foot long is ideal. These are the easiest rods to use and matched with a similar sized spinning reel will have you well on your way to fishing success!
Fishing Reel
Now that you’re sorted with a rod, a good fishing reel is next on the agenda! We'd recommend starting off with a spinning reel in the 2500 or 4000 size, as this is just about as versatile as they come. If you need some more info on choosing the right spinning reel, you can read our blog or speak to a BCFing Expert in-store.
Fishing Line
With a rod and reel now sorted, you’ll need some fishing line to match. Monofilament or ‘mono’ line is what we’d recommend for beginners as it’s easy to work with and hard for the fish to see. If you're unsure how to attach the line to your reel we have an instore spooling service and our team will be more than happy to help.
Fishing Tackle
Also commonly known as terminal tackle, this includes gear such as hooks, sinkers, and swivels which all come in a huge variety of shapes and sizes. When you're just starting out it pays to pick up a selection of each. To make life easier we've got tackle kits that come with a range of tackle perfect for the beginner. If you're still unsure on what fishing tackle you need, your local BCFing Experts will be able to point you in the right direction.
Fishing Tools It always pays to have the right tools for the job, and fishing tools are no different! From scissors and pliers to lip grips and landing nets, there are plenty of bits and bobs that’ll make your time fishing that much easier.
Tackle Box
You'll need a home for all this fishing tackle and tools, and a tackle box is perfect for the job! We've got a huge variety of options, but the classic trayed tackle box is a winner for those just starting out. It has plenty of room for your tackle, tools, and even a hand reel! Keeping your gear tidy is super important to fishing success, so remember don't let things get too out of control and, grab a tackle box from BCF today!
Fishing Lures
Fishing with lures is a great way to get stuck into the fish, but with so many lures to choose from it can be a little tricky. The practically endless variety of colours, sizes and shapes is enough to make your head spin. If you’re super keen to try your hand at lure fishing, we’d recommend starting off by throwing some soft plastics around. Our soft plastic buyers guide has all the answers!
