Gas Hoses
- Gas hoses range in size from 600mm to 1500mm. The size that you choose largely depends on how close your gas cylinder is to your BBQ.
- You will also need to ensure the hose you choose has the correct fitting for your gas bottle.
- High pressure hoses do not require a regulator as they have a jet inside the hose. They are a must for appliances that require a massive amount of heat, like BBQs
- Low pressure hoses require a regulator as they do not have an internal jet. They are to be used with things that require a more gentle heat output, like camping stoves and heaters. Be careful when fitting these beauties though, as they don’t have their own connectors.
Types
There are many different gas fittings. Some of the most common fittings used include:
- 3/8 LH to POL - this adaptor allows you to use your 3/8 fitting bottle with a typical POL gas hose for your BBQ
- POL to Right Angle Adaptor - this adaptor allows you to use a large POL gas bottle with a 3/8 gas pole when using a lantern
HOT TIP
Continuously check your gas hose for leaks or cracks. If the hose is damaged, replace it as soon as possible.
Not sure if you have a leak? Try the soapy water test! Fill a spray bottle or dampen a sponge with soapy water, and apply it to your entire gas hose assembly. Pressurise the gas bottle without turning on the connected appliance. Now, the magic happens: if you start to see any bubbles, then you have a leak. Works a treat!
